HEALTH BOARD PLACES IN STRONG DEMAND

Nominees from the southern Ruapehu District for the five possible appointed positions on the Manawatu Wanganui Area Health Board may face stiff competition. Health Minister Helen Clark has received about 270 nominees for the country's 14 boards. There is possibly more than 20 names put forward for the Manawatu Wanganui board. A number of local groups, including the nowdefunct Waimarino District Council, were to put forward names of suitable people to fill a perceived gap in rural representation on the board after the election of its ten members saw none from the Waimarino and Waiouru area.
