OHAKUNE ARTIST TAKES KING COUNTRY PRIZE

Ohakune artist and art teacher Dennis Friar took a $1000 prize plus a distinction award for his painting "Taupiri Mountain" in the Central King Country Visual Arts Trust Awards, presented by the Governor General the Reverend Sir Paul Reeves, on Saturday. Mr Friar's painting is also one of 33 selected to tour New Zealand as part of the National Mutual touring exhibition. Ohakune teacher Chris Melody's painting "View from Joe's Farm" was also selected for the tour.
