KARIOI SCRUB FIRE

Ohakune Volunteer Firemen were called to a scrub fire at Karioi on Thursday night. The fire was in a deep, inaccessible ravine and, after finding no property was threatened and that helicopters would be needed, the appliances retumed to Ohakune. At first-light Wanganui Aero Works pilot Jim Reed, along with the rural firefighting authority members, doused the fire which had burned a large area of scrub and bush.
