PUT AND TAKE LAKE STOCKED UP WITH TROUT

Ohakune's "put in and take lake" has been reStocked with 250 legal limit sized fish for this season. The Waimarino Ward of the acclimatisation society and the Department of Conservation annually release trout at Lakes Reserve with the aim of providing fish for children. While adults are not banned from fishing at Lakes Reserve they are encouraged to catch and release their fish to leave them for the children Mr Heaphy said the department and the society are planning to work on the lake, cleaning up a section of the lake edge at the picnic area and building a casting platform and track on the north-westem side of the lake. He said there was an "unofficial partnership" with the council on the project, with council having "done a really good job" of upgrading the road and clearing overhanging vegetation.
