RAETIHI A "CHIPS" TOWN
Raetihi has more than two past wood chopping champions, with Jimmy Haitana a past champion at the standard chop and New Zealand Champion Standing chop. He was also part of a New Zealand teams relay chop team with A Timo and A Warner, according to a Raetihi informer. The information came to the Bulletin after the story on Raetihi's "Ewe and Me in Raetihi" story which mentioned Champions Tom West and Sonny Bolstad (are there any more? Ed). Our caller also suggested the community day discussed be called "Chips" in recognition of Raetihi's timber town history.
