OK win despite mistakes

Ohakune-Karioi Under 19's played Counties at Horrocks Park on Saturday. Ohakune-Karioi went on to the field with intentions to spin the ball but a heavy shower in the first ten minutes made the ball very slippery. Many opportunities were put to ground with bullet passes and simply bad handling. The Waimarino team had a good supply of ball but with mistakes galore, they could not capitalise. After 20 minutes, Grant Barrett scored a good try, running through several tackles. Following this Ohakune-Karioi became noticeably relaxed and let Counties back into

the game. Counties took control, helped by some poor tackling by Ohakune-Karioi saw Counties barge over for a well deserved try. After half time Ohakune-Karioi tightened up their game. But found it difficult to cross Counties' line. This was caused by running that yard too far with the ball, plus good solid Counties defence. Ohakune-Karioi stuck to their task and were rewarded with a penalty by Mark Donghi, followed soon after with a try by Grant Barrett, where several forwards and backs combined in a good passing movement. Mark Donghi converted. With pressure on the Counties line Ohakune-

Karioi were rewarded with two more penalties to bring the final score to Ohakune-Karioi 19, Counties 4. Jason Langdon was named player of the day. Ohakune-Karioi play Kaierau at Ohakune next Saturday.
