Newest Waiouru officers

After nearly twelve month's training it was graduation day for 23 Officer Cadets at Waiouru last Wednesday.
Reviewing officer for the Parade was The Chief of General Staff Major General B. Meldrum O.B.E. special guests included commander support Command Brigadier E.B. Bestic, Commander The Army Training Group Lieutenant Colonel C.P. Sinclair RNZCT, Commandant of the Officer Cadet School, Lieutenant Colonel M.A. Hughes RNZIR, His excellency Mr R.F. Laurie, High Commissioner for Austfalia and a representative from Malaysia and Brunei high commission. Of the 23 officer cadets fifteen were from New Zealand, five from Australia, two from Brunei and one from Malaysia, and they all graduated to the rank of Lieutenant with the exception of the Australian Cadets who graduated to the rank of second Lieutenant.
This is the eighth class to graduate from this Officer Cadet School which was established in 1985. Of the twenty seven that started the training twenty three completed the course - three females and twenty males. Darryl Jeffery Hubbard was awarded the Sword of Honour for the officer cadet assessed as having the greatest potential as an army officer and also the Chief of General Staff s prize for the officer cadet gaining the
highest aggregate marks in leadership. The Governor General's medal for the officer cadet gaining highest aggregate marks in all subjects was awarded to Anthony Joseph Laurensen. Other prizes were for the officer cadet gaining highest aggregate marks in Tactics, Kevan Scott; officer cadet gaining highest marks in Communication Skills, Anthony Joesph Laurensen; officer cadet gaining highest aggregate marks in Battlecraft, map reading, navigation, radio telephone procedure and weapon training, Turn page 3
New officers
Frompagel Graeme Palmer; and finally the Commandant's prize awarded to the senior class officer cadet whose performance in and contribution to the corps of officer cadets is assessed as being most
deserving of recognition was awarded to Philip Wood. After the parade special guests, graduates and families and friends of the graduates shared afternoon tea and later that evening the Graduation Ball.
