AERIAL 1080 POISON PELLET DROP THIS WEEK

The South West North Island Pest Authority's opossum control programme was to continue last week with an aerial drop of 1080 poison pellets but, due to inclement weather, was postponed until this week. The drop of 8.5 tonnes of pellets is to take place south of Ohakune and Raetihi in the Oruakukura Road area, using a Wanganui Aero Works helicopter and fixed wing aircraft. The programme is designed to create a buffer zone to stop the south ward migration of bovine tuberculosis carrying opossums.
