OVERDUE BOOK AMNESTY IN RAETIHI AND OHAKUNE

Raetihi and Ohakune public libraries are having an amnesty for people who have overdue books from May 30 to June 13. At the end of the amnesty overdue book holders will be billed for the books they hold. Nation al Library charge $50 for each book not returned to them regardless of its value. Both Librarians are concerned that books are being held overdue too often and say people using the library are becoming careless "as to what a free library constitutes". "All we ask is that that if you borrow books you bring them back at the time stated on the date slip and take care of the books," says Ohakune Librarian Colleen Newton. "If you need extended time please make arrangements with the librarian at the time of borrowing or phone through if an extension is needed." "Ohakune and Raetihi have a large number of National Library books on their shelves and it would be a shame to have to give them up because of cost and carelessness," said Mrs Newton.
