Social highlight with fashion
Ohakune's social event of the year, "Fashion *89", is on Wednesday night next week.
The charity show is organised by local retailers with local people volunteering their talent to show off fashions available now. Shops on show are Ragtime, Junction Ski Shop, George Edward and Collections, along with this year's guest shop "Leatherbound" from Hastings.
Proceeds from this year's show are to go to the Ruapehu South Business Association railway station project. If the project doesn't proceed the fashion show committee will choose another community project to donate the proceeds to. Past fashion shows have raised funds for the Ohakune Primary
School and to Turoa Tumblers. As well as being entcrtained by friends and fashions, show goers will be treated to a performance by fire man Charles Mareikura, demonstrating his skills with the naked flame The guest shop, Leatherbound, is one of the biggest leather shops in New Zealand and leather fashions from them will be on display at the Junction
Ski Shop for the week following the show. Almost all the money raised from ticket saies this year will be available for the community, thanks to support from the business community as well as the kindergarten committee who are making the night' s supper. Businesses include the fashion shops Homestyle, Hot Lava, the Ruapehu Bulletin, Wholesome foods and Ohakune motelliers
