Raetihi's number's up
This week I received addressed to my home, a letter from the Waimarino District Council confirming street numbers in Raetihi. I understand these have been sent to all ratepayers. Valuable information is given relating to the valuation reference and the legal description of the property. This is useful information which I knew already. My street number is then given and by a fortunate coincidence it happens to be the same as that to which the letter was addressed. The next paragraph states: "It would be appreciated if the old number is removed, this would stop confusion." I have now removed my old number and am waiting for Council to provide me with my new number urgently as now that my house has no number, a lot of people are becoming confused very quickly. On behalf of many other ratepayers, I would be grateful if you could ascertain for us
Mr Editor, when Council will be issuing these new numbers forour houses. If, as I suspect, it is not their intention to do so and they do not wish us to remove our old numbers, why then did they waste our money and their time sending a letter which can only be described
as a complete waste of ratepayers funds. Should it not have been sent only to those for whom a change was applicable? With the current rate increases being proposed, this is again indicative of Council's ongoing reluctance to make savings in the biggest cost centre they have. Numbers game.
