Good clean cruel sport?

A recent Saturday afternoon I witnessed a spectacle of appalling animal cruelty staged in the name of popular entertainment in what is supposed to be a civilised country with an enlightened and humane policy towards animals. But popular this entertainment seemed to be for the hundreds of spectators who yelled and screamed encouragement as half-throt-tled young steers and bulls, the whites of their eyes rolled back in terror, their tongues forced from their mouths by the strangling ropes round their necks, bellowing pain and fright were taunted and teased and then wrestled to the ground to be unceremoniously upturned, probably not realising for a moment that this is what some human beings regard as good clean sport. I refer of course to the Kakahi Rodeo which, if what I saw in the few minutes I could stand observing such cruelty was typical of the rest of the programme, should be banned forthwith. I cannot believe the RSPCA would allow such treatment of dumb S and innocent animals if they had seen what I , had seen in Kakahi on : that Saturday afternoon.

\ Short bag year ; Ever wondered why the label stating that there are 52 rubbish ■ bags inside your pack , that you get from the borough each year has

disappeared. More to the point, have you ever bothered to count them? Well I did, and I couldn't get passed 49. Why? because that's all there was - one for every week of the year? So maybe I got a dud bag - or maybe there's only 49 weeks in the

year?
