TONGARIRO'S KETETAHI TRACK NEARLY REBUILT
The Ketetahi Springs walking track is on the way to having a more solid surface, with reconstruction work due for completion by May. DoC received $39,000 from the Tourist and Publicity Department to upgrade the track, which is one of the most popular in the Tongariro National Park. The work sees the filling in of the deep channels that have been scoured out following the wear of trampers' boots. Park staff say the area is especially erosion prone and that the work done involves filling the channels, improving drainage and laying a permanent surface on the track. Maintenance work will be minimized by the proiect, say staff.
