OPOSSUMS TOO WELL FED

Waimarino Opossums are too well fed and are turning their noses up at the Pest Authority's poison pellets. The recent mild weather leading to an abundance in feed has been suggested as one reason why less than 40 per cent of the area's opossums have taken bait in the Pest Authority's test drop of the poison pellets. The test results have meant the postponement of the air drop of 1080 pellets through bush and scrub in a zone extending from the Whangaehu River to the Mangaturoa Road. Pest Authority supervisor Dave McKinley said they want at least 80 per cent of opossums to take the bait before starting the air drop.
