VEHICLES ON PUBLIC ROADS.
to the editor,
Sir, —Permit me the space of a thought or two re the above. On a portion of the main street of our township is of ten to be seen, if your eyes are good, particularly at night," a stage coach occupying" the centre of that street, to say nothing of minor vehicles which are often left Avith portions of theui extending across the footpath, in such a manner that those who use the footpath are in danger of injury from them, for few men or women walking quickly in the darkness can gain their balance AA rlien tripped by a pair of shafts lying directly across their path. This is not the only danger, in so far as these vehicles are not provided with lights while occupying the footpath and street, where they remain unless in use, and any who ride or drive are in constant danger of collision or of accident caused by shying of horses thereat. Further, sir, I would feel obliged if you, or any of your readers, can enlighten my crass ignorance as to whether, hi "the towns and villages throughout the colony, it is a usual thing for individuals (to say nothing of Eoad Board members) to make use of public property as a storehouse for j>rivate use in the form of a coach yard ! Another query, Mr Editor, to you and readers and I shall bow myself out. Does the above come under the Police Offences Act ?
If so, I would call on some patriot with time at his disposal, to act as a guide to our local peace officer, (that he may not be lost in the mazes of our metropolis) to bring this matter under his " eagle eye !"—Yours etc.,
An OusEirvEß
[AYe believe there is a liability under the Police Offences Act, but doubt if the Act applies to AVarkworth. Ed.]
