BACH KLOKS BALL,
On Friday, 11th September, a ball given by the young bachelors of Puhoi was held 'in the Town Hall. Dancing commenced at 8 o'clock and continued till the early hours of morning. The ladies were" most tastefully attired, the hall presented a very brilliant scene, and it would be a matter of difficulty to pick the belle of the ball from the SAveet nymphs Avho so gracefully on the occasion 'did honour to the Terr)sichorearj art. The music Avas contributed by the Bartley Band and Messrs James Scholium, " Puhoi, and AVenzel Scholium AVade, Avere very active and genial M.C's.
VALEDICTORY,
AYe learn with deeji regret that Mr T. D. Eice is soon to leave the settlement, being appointed head master to AVaitekauri School. Mr Eice Avill take with him the earnest wishes of one and all in the German settlement for his every success in the future field of his labours. BEREAVEMENT. AYe regret to learn Mr Julius Berger lost his infant son, Charles Leo, after a very brief illness. Mr AVenzlick, sen., in the unavoidable absence of Eev. Father Corcoran, officiated at the grave. E.I.P.
RECORD PRICES,
On Wednesday, 23rd September, ! 190 sheep were shipped from Puhoi by the s.s. Kotiti by Mr W. Martin for the Auckland market. They were bought from Messrs Titford, A. Russek and Vincent Schischka. The prices—record ones for our settlement —ranged from 17/6 to 20/- a head. AUCTION SALE. Thursday, 24th, Mr Snook held a very large cattle fair, an account of Avhich will appear in" our next issue. AN APPRECIATED A TISIT. Dr. McCredie, whose genial face is always Avelcome here, paid us a flyingvisit to Puhoi this Aveek. It is to be hoped Dr. McCredie will see his way clear to pay a monthly visit to Puhoi where there is little doubt his services will be both appreciated and repaid.
