MULLET POINT.

(Own Correspondent.)

SUMMER BESOItTS,

Preparations are already being made at the seaside resorts for the coming summer season. Mr A. Algie of Mullet Point is adding six rooms to his boarding-house. I hear Mr Wenzlick of Puhoi has taken Capt. T. Scott's fine house at Mahurangi Heads and I believe, intends taking boarders this summer.

HArPY BIRDS

The s.s. Kotiti looked very pretty the other day being dressed in bunting in honour of the marriage of Mr and Mrs T. Blair of Matakana. I was invited on board to see the young couple and Avedding party avlio seemed to be enjoying the situation very much. By the Avay Aveddings appear to be booming at Matakana just now, three quite recently, and more looming up.

PROGRESS,

Properties are changing hands at Mahurangi Heads and Takatu Point. Mr P. Anderson has purchased the section belonging to Capt. McKinven, and Mr T. Jamieson has secured the farm of Mr Jas. Darroch at Mahurangi West, while Mr J. Snell late of Dome Valley has bought Mr Wells' place at Takatu Point.

A GRAND SIGHT

The other day, just as the s.s. Orewa cleared Matakana river she passed through a very large school of black fish which were sporting on the surface of the Avater. The mate of the steamer after firing a shot or tAvo hit one whereon the Avhole school took alarm and made off at a tremendous rate lashing the water into foam and scattering the spray high into the air, Avhich was clearly seen at a distance of three miles or more. It is estimated there were several hundreds of Avhales and they presented a grand spectacle to those on the Orewa.

nature's glories,

The native bush at Mullet Point just now presents a very attractive appearance. The yelloAV koAvhai is very plentiful and is in full bloom Avhile many a tall tree (and short ones too for that matter) is capped with a gorgeous crown of clematis. The cliffs and dry banks are a mass of bloom of a nativo tree Avhich I cannot name but is very plentiful and is in the height of blossom and has a very' fragrant smell. Tuis are here by the score making the air melodious Avith their sweet notes. These pretty songsters come here every spring to feast on the honey contained in the kowhai flowers.
