ICE-FREE OASIS IN ANTARCTICA
NEW YORK, Feb. 12. ' , Scouting aircraft of the Byrd cxpedition discovered a remark-.-ble 40 miles wide inland oasis of l=»kes and low hills of apparently Kare earth in an area completely t evoid of ice. The leader says he c'onsiders the discoyery of the _ greatest geological significance, f rnd thinks it possible that the area might be warm enough to support r round-the-year human settlement romfortahly. Dispatches said some the lakes were big enough .for r ihe- expedition's flying-boats to use.
