PRISONERS' STRIKE IN PENTRIDGE GAOL
Refusal To Work During Last Two Days MELBOURNE, Feb. 12. About 100 prisoners, including some desperate criminals, are" on strike in Pentridge Gaol, Melb^urne, and they have refused to do1* any work for the last two days. A note signed "The Majority" has been sent to the gaol authorities stating- that the ringleaders are coercing most of the prisoners, who cio not want to be involved. Two of the leaders are said to be well-known gunmen serving long sentences. The trouble, which, it is believed, has developed during the last few months, is the first mass defiance of authority at Pentridge for more than 25 years. The prisoners stopped work after j expressing dissatisfaction with a meal but the governor of the prison could find nothing wrong with the food. •
