FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN ATHLETIC FIELDS
Keen Compe'tition For Points In spite of a keen wind, there wak a good muster of competitors and spectators at the Pererika Reserve last night, when the Rotorua Amateur Athl'etic and Cycling Club continued with the points trophy programme. Conditions were against fast times, but some good performances \vere..,registered. D. Southwick and T. Kapua, winners of the senior ahd junior 50 yards respectively, each had a clear yard on their fields, but the remaining competitors finished in a bunch. The mile, which was run as one race, was a triumph for A. Hicks, who after he had been caught by the backmarker, came away down the straight for a convincing win. The quartermile. open drew the largest field of the season, and produced plenty of excitement. , The women's events also brought more starters than usual. Miss N. Martis again found the longer race to her likfng, and Miss K. Mansfield came with a great burst at the finish to. take the 75 yards. In the broad jump, inches separated the placed competitors. .
