PUBLIC OPINION
MUNICIPAL MOTOR CAMP. To the Editor. Sir, — I have been a camping visitor to your town over 10 years, and althongh I dislike beiug .a critic, I feel that unless someone takes up the gauntlet, things will go from ba.d to worse. During this holiday period, v nearly 30f/3 cars have been in the camp, most of them members of the A.A. What are they doing about things ? Will the A.A. wake the council up? ; What is wrongr? Certainly not the popular custodian. He, poor lellow, has to continually apologise for camp eonditions. If the camp were privately owned the council would be stirring things up. Why not try it on themselves? I venture to state that in the last 10 years the council has not spent £50 on improvements; true, they have bought a few army tents to renfc at £2 a week. Most of the tent sides are uneven and few that are level are in such demand that they are covered in lust, or were before this wind spraug up. Most of thc dcst is eaten hy the campers. The conveniences — well! The cxcuse is that the Government owned thc land and is going to build houses on the site. Some of the okl campers said, "Don't waste paper on the subject. The council is dead." You residents in the main depend on the motorist for your living and if there isn't a council resarrection there will he a dying town. j — I am, etc., H. J. FINLAY. Hawera.
