RESTORATION OF DEATH PENALTY IS URGED
HAMILTON, last night. That the Grand Jury viewed with grave concern the incidence of murder and attempted murder charges in the S-dpreme Court, and felt that the restoration of capital punishment would act as a deterrent, was a presentmeut recorded by the Grand Jury in the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day. A' record presentmen't was to the effect that a xeturn should be prepared, and pu'blis'hed, as to the number of murder -and manslaughter trials in the eig-ht years immediately preceding the abolition of capital punishment in New Zealand, with a corresponding compilation of similar -char ges for. the eight years- since capital punishment was abelished. Mr. Justice Smith sgid the presentments would be conveyqd to the proper quarter. V t .
