Hardstaff and Edrich, in the hest partnerslup of the tour, made 282 in 181 minutes, the previous best being 254 'by H'utton and Washbrpok at Adelaide. Compton hit 24 fours in 181 minutes and Hardstaff -11 fours in 2-33 minutes. Play ceased at 2.45 p.m. with England's score reading 467 for five wickets.
