MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF GIRL
Stenographer Strangled In Dispensary Waiting Room BRISBAN-E, January 12. Following the finding of the strangled, scantily-elad body of a 19-year-old stenographer, Veronica Mary Armstrong, in the waiting-room of the Associated Friendly Society's dispensary, Abbot Street, the _ police have charged Reginald Wingfield Brown, aged 49, secretary of the Brisbane society, with murder. A nurse found the 'body lying on the floor, clad in a singlet and shoes, and a search of the building failed to reveal any further clothing. The girl was clutching an anesthesia atomispr, and was bruised about the throat, arms and legs. The pathologists' report revealed that she died from asphyxiation. Tenants heard screams and a thumping sound, but disregarded them as being the cries of children.
