Hay Prospects Good Most farmers in the Rotorua district anticipate a fairly good hay harvest this year and the roo-t crops also are satisfactory, so that the problem of winter feetl is unlikely to become acute. Attacked by Boar Lacerations to the left ihigh were received hy Mr. Gordon Thomas McGowan, aged 38, farmer, of Te Kowhai, yesterday, when he was loading a boar into a lorry, the animal charging him. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. Sunny Downs Fat Lambs The'capacity of the Rotorua distriet for the raising of fat lambs has received its most recent exemplification from the returns from one draft of 840 lambs of the Southdown-Rom-ney cross, which were railed last Sunday from the Sunny Downs estate. The lambs averaged 39.02 pounds each; none vjas second grade, and none was condemned. Exodus From Dominion Travel agencies report that there is still a great demand for passages to England in spite of warnings that there is little possibility of travellers being able to return for at least a year. One agency is already handling a large volume of inquiries for February, March and April of next year. There are indieations that several thousatnd people will sail within the next six months. Fire Dealt With From Taupo The efficieney of the careful guard which is kept over the State Forest in the Taupo-Rotorua area was demonstrated recently when fire broke out 11 miles fro-m Taupo. One of the aircraft which keep up daily patrols, spotted the fire, and advised Rotorua by radio. A call was made from here to the Taupo Fire Board. One engine from Taupo was on the scene of the fire within 30 minutes of receiving the call, and the hlaze was soon under control. The country in this area is extremely dry at the present time, it is stated, and extreme cave must be taken. Clever Dogs Capture Fawn A farmer in the Tauranga district has reason to be thankful that two of his dogs are well trained. While out pig hunting a few days ago the dogs started off into the bush giving all the signs of an early "kill." The farmer followed quiekly but was mystified when the usual dog sounds were not accompanied by squeals and grunts. Emerging into^a small clearing- he was astonis'hed to see that the dogs had hold of a fawn by the ears, and what was even more remarkable, the baby deer was unharmed. The fawn is now several days old, and is being reared on the principles commonly used with pedigree cattle. Its ultimate destination is one of the zoos.
