MAORI CHILD DROWNED AT LAKE ROTOITI
4 Mac-ri girl was drowned in Lake Rotoiti at Otaramarae yesterday afternoon. She was Adelaide Simon, aged 7 years, daughter of Mrs. Mata Simon, of Otaramarae. The child, who was fuce down at the bottom of seven feet of water, just off the jetty, was discovered by another Maori child at 5.55 p.m. A boat was mo-ored near the landing, and it is assumed that the child had been playing in it. The body was reeovered, and Dr. Ussher and Miss Ussher, who are holidaying at Lake Rotoiti, applied artificial respiration until the arrival of the ambulance from Rotorua, when oxygenc- treatnient and injections were given without avail. The body was brought to Rotorua, where further treatment also proved unsuccessful. An inquest will be opened before the District Coro'ner, Mr. W. L. Richards, at Otaramarae, tormorrow.
