CONSERVATIVE MEMBER RESIGNS

LONDON, Dec. 28. Mr. E. L. G. Dower, Conservative M.P. for Caithness, has announced his resignation because of pressure oi" private business. Mr. Dower was elected at tlie general election with a majority of six votes over the Labour candidate and 63 over the sitting member, Sir Archibald Sinclair (Liberal). During the campaign Mr. Dower is reported to have promised to resign and submit himself for re-election when the Japanese war ended. ITis politieal opponents frequently rejninded him of the promise, but he refused to answer questions about the date of his resignation.
