Wellington, Saturday. Although 128 offers of estates for considei'Glion wero received by tbe Lmd Putehase Controller during the la.J. financial year. it was'considered inadvi::able to make any purchases. Up to March 31 last the total number oP states acquired under the Aet was 725, the area representing 2,127, - 717 acres and the purchase price £13,922,693. "A considerable amount of improvement work in clenring, cultivating, gvassing and feneing has been carried out 011 tbe Galatea Estate, which is at present being run by the Department as a mixed faim," the report adds. "A demonstration farm to show the possibilities of the land is being established, and it is proposed to coitimence the permanent settiement of the estate early in 1934, when .some 20 sections will be offered for application. Further sections will be offered in suceeeding years."
