CAPTAIN BRUCE BAIRNSFATHER INVENTOR OF "OLD BILL"
London, Nov. 1. Creditors met in London -under the failure of Captain Bruce Barinsfather, the creator of "Old Bill," described as lately of Piltdown, Sussex. The official receiver said that according to statements made by Captain Bairnsfather he obtained a commission in 1914. After the war he was transferred to the reserve with the rank of captain. He had made an income from his war sketches and had produced plays entitled "The Better 'Ole" and "Old Bill, M.F." Afterwards he went on a music-hall tour in this country and in the United S'tates and wrote the revue " 'Ullo." This was produced in the provinces and at the Old Ox- , ford Theatre in November, 1924. He attributed his failure mainly to loss on that production. A statement of affairs was submitted showing liabilities of £14,286, including a claim of £9380 in respect of income tax. The assets consisted of £105 in cash, royalties estimated to produce £200, and a number of original and other sketches. Captain Bairnsfather had stated that he was now receiving 21 guineas a week, and he offered to set aside £25 a month for his creditors. Mr. R. F. W.
