FIRST ANNUAL MEETING RECORDS JSUCCESSFUL YEAR ELEOTION OF OFF.ICERS The first annual meeting of the Rotorua Trotting Cluh was held last evening, the president, Mr. L. C. Ryan, presiding over a good attendance of members. Chief discussion centred round the possibility of securing a totalisator permit for the club's meeting on May 14 and it was reported that negotiations are in train for securing a permit. The report and balance sheet as already published in the "Morning Poat" was read and adopted. In speaking to ithe report, the president expressed regret that it had been found impossihle to secure a totalisator permit for last year's meeting. Nevertheless, as a non-tote meeting, the club's initial venture, he thou'ght, had been very creditable. The club had been allotted May 14 as a date for the fortheoming season and it would rest with the incoming committee to* decide whether they would utilise that date or not. He considered that the club had cause to be grateful for the excellent support aecorded hy the general public and he felt sure that if this was maintained, the club would succeed in securing a totalisator permit. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: Patron, Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P.; vice-patron, Mr. T. Jackson, president, Mr. L. C. Ryan, vice-president, Mr. F. Goodson; treasurer, Mr. C. 'W/. Griffiths; it was decided to fix the number of the committee at ten and the following gentlemen were eleeted, Messrs J. Deakin, E. A. Mieredith, E. Roe, Brown, E. G. Guy, D. Camlbie, R'. P. Spedding, C. S. Dalgliesh, Young and Dr. Bertram; hon. surgeon, Dr. S. H. Hay, hon. solicitor, Mr. G. Urquhart; lion, sister, Sister Mitchell; hon. surveyor, Mr. H. Tai Mitchell; hon. timekeeper MJr. W. Howden. A draft of the club rules, as prepared by the club's solicitor was read and approved. It was decided that the election of the president and vicepresident should be carried out by the general meeting and not hy the committee. It was also agreed that the term of ballot should be half-an-hour and that three adverse votes from the committee should withhold membership. Discussing the quesition of the club's next meeting, the president said that he had discussed the position with the president of the Trotting Conference and . negotiations were ,a.t present procgeding in an end-eavour to secure a permit. The general opinion expressed was that it was most desirable that the club's next meeting should have a totalisator permit and it was made a recommendation to the committee that every effort be made in this direction. • • The president in declaring the meeting closed, paid a trihute to the work of the. retiring officials and in particular to Mr. E. La Trobe Hill who had done very valuable work in an honorary capacity as secretary. Appreciation of Mr. Hill's work was expressed hy acclamaition.
