CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

Trogress")

VARIATION NEEDED IN NATURE OF VEHICLE DISPLAY. IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTED.

(By "

In the arrangement of the programme for Christmas Carnival week in Rotorua, the advisability of continuing the decorated vehicle procession on New Year's Eve has apparently been a contentious subject with members of the Borough Advancement Committee owing to the unsatisfactory nature oi similar processions in past years. No doubt realising the attractive possibilities of such demonstrations, the committee has again decided to include such a display on its programme for the week and is offering special prizes to those competing. There are however, one or two important points which do not appear to have been discussed by the committee, the first of which is that more novelty should be introduced into the proeession. Rotorua is a town which is regularly visited by many people at Christmas each year and it should be aim of the townspeople to entertain them in such a manner as will ensure that these annual visits are continued. In order to do this it is necessary that some variation in the yearly programmes should be provided, and it is suggested that this year' (which it must be remembered is the jubilee of the town) there is an opportunity to do this by improving the nature of the New Year's Eve proeession. It is believed that at Mamaku there is a bullock team employed, and this promoted the suggestion that a proeession representing the progress of transport in Rotorua should be featured during the Christmas week celebrations. No doubt the transport companies operating in Rotorua have a number of their old vehicles in their garages and these also could be used to mark the progress of time, while it is possible that the Railway Department would similarly co-oper-ate by depicting the arrival of the railway in Rotorua. There are many possibilities to this suggestion and apart from proving attractive as a display, such a proeession would suitably mark the celebration of the town's jubilee.
