SHERRIFF YIELDS PRISONER Early in the evening the State Governor, Mr. Parkes, had called out the militia, but they were slow in mobilising. The Government tank they were using was attacked by- the mob and put out of commission by stones. Finally the sherriff gave the pri^oner to the mob who promptly hanged him and then poured petrol on the body a,nd burned it.
