ROWING REGATTA
ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEE ' MEETS AUCKLAND DEPUTATION LAKE ROTORUA COURSE At a meeting of the Rotorua Borough Couneil Advancement Committee held last Friday evening a deputation consisiting of Messris , G. T. W'ilson, district traffic manager of thev Railway Department, and Mr, A. C. Norden, president of the Auckland Riowing Association, suggested to the committee that it co-operate in the arrangement of a regatta on Lake Rotorua under the auspiees of the Auckland Rowing Association. -In outlining the proposals. Mr. Niorden said th'at January 13 next had been suggested as a possible date and ffchat it was possible that the regatta might embrace the Auckland Provincial Rowing Ghampionships, The Railway Department h'ad stated its willingness to assist by the provision of special excursion fares to Rotorua from 'various parts of the Nor.th Island, while his association twould attend to all entries. The Rotorua people would be expected to ■provide prize money of approximateiy £140, bnt would recoup itseLf from entry fees and gate receipts. He also thought that it would be possible to transport eight-oared boats from Auckland and Maori events could also be featured. The suggestion was exhaustively diseussed by the committee after which it was decided, on the motion (of Cr. E. T. Johnson, to co-operate in the arrangement of the regatta. It was also arranged that members pf the deputation- together with. meifibers of the committee should' arrange a launch visit on the lake to Yieyr a possible course. As a result o.f the trip it is understood that a coprse between Kawaha Point and Ohinemutu has been tentatively selpcted for the rowing events.
