SIGHTSEEING TRIPS
tourist companies qranted amendments to ligenses ■ CATERING FOR VISITORS 'Authority for the three main tourist- companies operating in Rotorua to run additional sightseeing trips, other than those named as compulsory in their licenses (at any tixrie when the necessity might prove itsejf advisable in catering for visitors to ithe town) was given to the companies concerned by the No, 4 TrapsP'ort Licensing Authority before it liancluded tbs Rotoruia sittjng ysjsterday morning. At its previous sitting' the authority had intimated that it thought tfiis provision advisable for a tourist town s'ueh as Rotorua, and a confepenpe pn the matter between represeptatives of the R.M. Transport Oo., K 'AIotor ■Services, Ltd., and the Rotorua Bus Company, together with members of the authority was held. It was then sagreed as desirable to give the three companies the right, at their gole •direction, to run any further trips over the same routes at any time they thought fit, and when suffip'ient passengers were offering, in addition to the compulsory trips as detailed in their licenses. However, under the provisions of tbe Act, it was not possible to amend (the licenses at tbat ■time, and the necessary action was therefore taken at yesterday's sitting of the authority. ;Mr. E. Roe (representing the R.MTransport Company) in formally approving of the terms of the suggested amendment yesterday, p'ointed out to the authority that the starting ■ points of these trips had not been stated, and suggested that they should be from the various companies premises. If this clause was not inserted, h'e said that the Rotorua Bus Company, which had its present starting point at the Bank of New Zealand corner in Fenton Street, would be permitted to have a bus . Qn tlie stand all day, which would be detrimental to his clients and the interests of the town. There would als° probably be considerable opposition to this practice from the Borough' Couneil. While considering that in the lo.ca•tion of its premises, the Rotorua Bus Company would be at a disadvantpge compared with the situatipn of the two other companies' offices, Mlr. S. S-mith agreed to this provision, and there being no other opposition, the amendment was agreed to by the auth'ority.
