CROSS THE LINE
BYRD EXPEDITION MAY BE IN N.Z. FOR NEW YEAR (Special to the United Press Association from the Byrd Expedition) . At Sea, Nov. 27. On Sunday afternoon, the veteran ice-breaker, Bear of Oakland, pushed her way into the waters of the Southern Hemisphere for the first time for half a eentury. The traditional Neptune ceremony was held. The ship is now headed for Papeete and Tahiti wherq she is to coal. It is expected that the vessel will .arriye there about December 13 and procee.d thence to Wellington where it is hoped she will arrive in time to ush.er in 1934.
