N.R.A. CODE VIOLATED
(Press Assn. —
first federal indictment made by american government A DIFFICULT CASE
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
(Rec. 7.10 p.m.) New York, November 16. The first Federal indictment for violation of the N.R.A. code was today returned by a grand jury here. The Government prepared the case with great care following an exhaustive investigation, but the puzzling feature of the indictment is that it is against a firm, the officers of which state that they did not sign the code, because their business was outside the jurisdiction of the N.R.A. The indictment is against Hercules Gas Filling Stations, which is charged with a violation of the working hours of the code, and the failure to post the price of peti'ol in the manner prescribed. Those indicted claim that a number of their competitors who signed the code have violated it in the same manner and that in order to compete they are following their competitors' methods.
