FRENCH SURTAX
(Press Assn.-
britain will retaliate if it is not removed
_ By Telegraph— Copyright).
London, Nov. 16. The Financial News' Paris correspondent says it is reliably reported that the British Government has given notice to France that unless the 15 per cent. exchange surtax on British goods is removed within a month a customs duty will be imposed on all French goods. The British viewpoint is that the surtax is discriminatory, since it has not been applied to the United States, and is unfair, as no surtax was imposed on the French during the depreciation of the franc.
