GENERAL BUSINESS DISCUSSED AT YESTERDAY'S MEETING The usual monthly meeting of the Rotorua County Council was held yesterday, there being present Crs. H. P. Ford (chairman), G. J. Ford, R. C. Smith, J. J. Smyth and J. E. Martin. The following were included amon'g the matters of general business discussed. The council agreed to approve an •application from the Chief Surveyor, Department of Lands and Survey, for permdssion to take portion of the Okoheriki block for road purposes. A letter was received from Mr. F. Earl, Auckland, in connection with the sub-division of Taheke-Papa-kainga Block stating th'at the width of the right-of-way is being increased to 20 feet in accordance with the council's requirements. . Permission was granted" the Mamaku School Committee to set back the school fence fronting Cowper's Road six feet in order to permit the planting of a hedge. Mr. H. J. Goodrick, Mamaku, advised that he was quite satisfied with the arrangements made between thc Mamaku School Committee and the council to give him a 15-foot roadway as access to Cowper's Road. The council's attention was drawn by Mr. G. M. Thomson, Auckland, to an uncovered road drain fronting his property at Koutu. His request that the drain be .piped and filled in was referred to the chairman and the enl gineer for a report, as also was a request from Mrs. IE. C. Gibbons that the Pongakawa-Rotoehu Road be repaired. An application from Mr. G. R. Bell for thq use of about an acre of the Hamurana Road reserve for the purpose of .building a cottage was approved at a stipulated rental, the applicant to be advised that the lease would be a temporary one a.t the pleasure of the council, and that any building erected should be removed at the request of the council, at any time.
