DOCTORS DIFFER IN A COMPENSATION CASE CLAIM DISALLOWED
— By Tfelegraph— Copyrlgtit).
Sydney, August 2. The V/orkers' Compensation Commission to-day found for the respondent in the case in which the widow of Hugh Carr, of -Wirthiwabah. claimed £800 compensation as the result of her husband's death. The question to be decided was whether Carr died as a result of generalised septicaema following a scratch on his index finger on January 9, 1932, or by the result of a bite by a red back spider on the little finger on January 24, 1933. Dr. M. Elliott said that he had administered treatment for the bite of the red back spider and could say definitely that Carr's death was not due to such a bite. He had treated Carr and believed that death was due to a generalised septicaema. Dr. W. Ingram said that he thought that death was undoubtedly due to the bite of a spider. The toxin injected by a spider he said, was much stronger than that of a snake.
