ABOUT KILLED CONFERENCE Rec. July 4, 7.10 p.m. ! London, July 4, A special writer, in the Daily Express says that Mr. Roosevelt has torpedoed the conference and that tht bureau will now dsicuss the deatl agonies. The Daily Herald says that it is fairly certain that the conference wil continue, but that it is likely to enc sooner than anticipated with a series of pious and inelfectual resolutions. ; The Daily Telegraph's correspond i ent says that British official circles I regard Mr. Roosevelt's appareni i abandonment of any idea of an earlj i return to the gold standard as quit ! the most sensational feature of th President's message. : The Daily Chronicle says: "Mr Roosevelt's message naturally startle the conference more than anythinj which has yet occurred. It is unlikeh that France would have attended ha she been told beforehand that cur rency stabilisation would be regarde as. a minor matter. The message re veals a diseoncerting ignorance of tb European situation and until Mi • Roosevelt discloses his. intentions, i is useless trying to work with him We can dnly try to prevent our ow: • alfairs falling into confusion."
