UNEMPLOYMENT

rotorua district PRESENT POSITION SHOWS SMALL DECREASE IN NUMBERS PAST SIX WEEKS' FIGURES Figures in connection with unemployment in the Rotorua district remain fairly stable and there" is not very much alteration from week to week in the numbers of registered unemployed upon the oflxcial list. During the last week there were 487 on the list, made up of 57 single men, 272 married men with up to two children, and 158 married men with three or more children. This is a drop upon last week's figures which were 499, but is about the ave-rage for the figures for the previous week which were rather abnormal. The figures for the past six weeks are as follows: — Week eixded June 17 487 JunelO 499 June 3 " 484 May 27 469 May 20 485 May 13 480 There is very little change in the avenues offering for employment, the usual work under local authorities being that most in vogue, but the board is still requiring 100 men to take up work under the various forestry schemes which it has promoted. With regard to the issue of boots for relief workers, the local officer in charge of unemployment has sent out the supplementary forms to the men over a week ago and the appiieations for footwear cannot be dealt with until these are returned by'the men affected.
