SCOUT NOTES

SWEDISH DRILL AND BOXING INSTRUCTION FOR NO. 2 TROOP Last Friday evening, 25 " scouts paraded in the club room under the supervision of the Scoutmaster and troop leader. After the customary prayers and inspection, the troop was handed over to Mr. Thompson, who ably coached the lads in boxing. Many interesting bouts were. witnessed, amongst the best of which were: — -Mahima v. Rika, Walker v. Another, Campbell v. Cantwell. Rather reluctant to leave boxing, the boys were taken over by Mr. J.

Te Kiri for instruction on hakas. Hakas and war cries form a rather impox'tant factor in scout training and the pitch of tense excitement to which the troop worked itself was very realistic. Swedish drill was the next item and again under the handling of Mr. Thompson. The boys' movements for a first attempt were unfinished, but nevertheless good. On Satux*day, June 17, at 2 p.m., and through the kindness of the principal of the Rotorua High and Grammar School, the annual inter-troop football match was played and resulted in a win for No. 2. The final score was 17 to 14. For No. 1 troop the outstanding players were: — J. Alexandex*, Budd, Musgrave and Spedding. For No. 2 Mahima, Clubb, Rika, Hodge and Skellern played a creditable game.
