A "DEB" BALL

CATHOLIC FUNCTION PRESENTATION TO HIS LORDSHIP, BISHOP LISTiON ROTORUA SOCIAL FUNCTION iSomething quite new to Rotorua ds ithe Gatholic Dehutante Ball that has been arranged to take place in the newf A. and P. Association buildings on August 2 and it is rumoured that many "debs" will take this opportunity of making their officdal courtesy to His Lordship, Bishop Liston. This is the first dehutante ball to he field an Rotorua and should cause much interest ia.nd excitement in the feminine world. The procedure on such an occasion is strictly formial and these are only some of the many points which a dehutante must observe on the eve of her "coming out." Of course we all know that white is the recognised and proper debutcolour and heads will he busy within , the next month planing out this allimportant gown, and then the dadnty early- Victorian posy together with long kid gloves which just add the final touch to a debutantes toilette. Two matrons of honour will attend with His Lordship and be seated on either side throughout the presentation. The dais on whdch the Bishop and his attendants are seated will be situated 'at one end of the ball-room and the debutantes will come from the foot of the hall in pairs at a distanee of ahout 10 or 12 yards moving in step to a slow coronation march. They each will carry a posy dn their outside hand, level with the breast and avoiding all appearance of stiffness. Having reached the foot of the stairway leading up to the dais the girl on the left will remain where she is while the( one on the right continues walking up the stairs, during which her name is announced by the Ball President. She will continue to advance until ,she reaches the Bishops chair, she will then bow gracefully, and as the Bishop extends his hand, she will take it lightly and kiss his episcopal ring. Having done that she wdll then walk four paces backwards and courtesy very low and then move on to her allotted position behind the Bishop's chair. As the right girl courtsies, the left dehutante who remained at the foot of the stairs will commence to move forward and she dn turn will go throuigh the same procedure. This is carried out until all the debutantes have been presented and are standing behind the Bishop'. Each dehutante of course will have a gentleman escort who will be in full evening dress. As the debutantes move off the dais after the presentation the escorts are arranged in such a miarmer as to pair off with their respective partners for the Debutantes' Waltz in which only those who have just been presented may take part.
