CONCERT BY WHAKATANE ' PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CHOIR V In spite of the stormy weather on Wednesday night, there was an exceptionally large attendance at St. John's Hall when the Whakatane Presbyterian Church Choir presented a sacred Cantata entitled "Darkness and Dawn." 'The soloists who took part in the function were Mrs. James (soprano), Mr. Owen Jones (bass and conduetor), Miss Connie Schofield (contralto). The following items were presented: Introduction — Midnight to Cairn; chorus, Lo, at Noon 'Is Sudden Night; solo, quartet and chorus, And When Jesus Rose Up; chorus, Behold the Son of Man; solo (soprano) And While He Yet Spoke; march .and chorus, The Royal Banners Forward Go; solo (soprano), And When They Come to a Place; chorus, Thou That Destroyeth The Temjple; recitaition ■and solo (bass), Now From the Sixth Hour The Sun was Darkened; solo (soprano), At The Ninth Hour; chorale, Thy Life was Given for Me; recita'tion and air (soprano), When the iEven Was Come; solo (bass) and chorus, When It Began to Dawn; solo (soprano), He Is Not Here; hymn Alleluia! Alleluia!; solo (bass), I am Alpha and Omega; chorus, And Behold, I Have the Keys.
