If you run short of darning wool, or can't get quite the right colour to go with the socks, use knitting wool and divide the strands. When the hemstitched edge of a pillow-case frays, tear it right off and use the case as an uder-pillow slip. If you want to make China tea go further, mix just a little Indian with it. You'll hardly notice the difference. The same applies to butter and margarine when making sandwiches or huttering toast or teacakes. If you run out of bath' salts, use ordinary soda from the kitchen. The buckle end of ,a strong hut shabby leather belt will make a fine dog collar. Large toffee tlns covered with cretonne make splendid work-boxes. After being fried, put the crisp strips through a mincer and keep in a tin or jar. These savoury bacon crumbs make a delicious addition to any kind of mince, rissoles or dishes of re-cooked meat. Or add &■ tahlespoon when preparing a vegetables dish "au gratin."
