(Rec. May 22.) London, May 21. The English, French and Spanish underwriters who insured the Georges Philippar's cargo have started an action for £1,125,000 against Messageries Maritimes in the French Courts. This decision follov^s the underwriter's receipt of the official findings as to the cause of the disaster, which is understood to contain disquieting evidence. The new French liner Georges Philippar was destroyed on May 15, 1932 by fire off the Gulf of Aden while on her maiden voyage. A large number of the passengers and crew were rescued from boats and rafts by other vessels, but about 5 lives were lost. Subsequent inquiry indicated there were suspicious circumstances connected with the disaster and that the fire may have been deliberately caused.
