MOTHERS' LEAGUE

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the League of Mothers took pdace at the Methodist sehoolroom last Friday afternoon at 2.45 o'clock, the president, Mrs. H. Bertram, presiding. Apologies were received from Mrs. Quinlan, Mrs. G. Urquhart, Mrs. Brownlee, Mrs. A. C. Randerson, Mrs. Tyler, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. W. Sommerville. After devotional exercises, an interesting competition was held, the winner being Mrs. A. Newson, with Mrs. L. Clark second. SeSveral items rendered during the afternoon were verp much appreciated, one by Mrs. J. H. Bear, late of Auckland, who sang several delightful solos, and Miss T. Johnson, whose elocutionary work was most enjoyable. Afternoon tea was served by the following' hostesses: — Mesdames L. Clarke, Bates, Beamsley, Butt, Calver, and Troughton Clark, and the meeting closed with the singing of a hymn.
