SOCIAL EVENING

A very pleasant social evening, in place of their usual afternoon, was held at the Tea ICioslc, Government Gardens, last Thursday evening by members of the Rotorua Women's Club. Autumn chrysanthemums made attractive floral decorations in the lounge room, where the president, Mrs. D. M. Ford, received the guests on arrival. Prior to the president's address, Mrs. Ford asked all the members to stand in silence as a mark of respect to" the late Mrs. St. Clair, who had been a member of the club for a number of years. Following a 'delightful pianoforte solo by Mrs. B. M. Green, an interesting novelty competition was held, which took the f orm of the identification of numerous small bags containing some mysterious article, the winner being Miss E. Winslade. H. Bear, late, of Auckland, were much enjoyed, and Mrs. W.> L. Richards' talk upon "Gloria's Book," which she illustrated with several of this talented young author's delightful poems, proved a most interesting item on the evening's programme, especially as Gloria is so well known to many Rotorua people.
