MR. BENNETT TALKS MATTERS OVER WITH U.S.A. OFFICIALS A BETTER UNDERSTANDING Rec. April 27, 7.10 p.m. New York, April 26. The New York Times Washington correspondent says it has become more apparent to-day that Mr. R. B. Bennett came to Washington prepared to do some real bargaining with Mr. Roosevelt on the subject of American-Canadian trade. The Administration became extremely cautious lest the impression got abroad that a parley with the Canadian representative would result in a specific agreement not contemplated in the original plan for the pre-London discussions. It became definitely known that relaxation of Canadian customs administrative niethods which have operated to even a greater extent than import duties or reduced purchasing power to close Canadian markets to American exports, would be the specific concessions aslced from Mr. Bennett, while he was here. It was suggested, however, that any actual agreement be left to the ordinary offices of development intercourse or if desirable, to the World Economic Conference itself. The impression prevailed here that Mr. Bennett was ready to trade hoi'ses. Mr. Bennett has already agreed that there was nothing in the Ottawa agreement which precluded the possibility of a trade understanding with the United States and Canada.
