FIRST ROUND OF FIRST MEDAL MATCH ON SATURDAY EARLY SEASON FORM Saturday's weather was almost ideal for the first' opening medal handicap ni-atch of the 1933 season'.' A grey sky and cool conditions should have meant good cards, hut few play- * lived up to their reputation of 1932. It may be conceded that ' the opening niatch of .a season has its dmwbaeks and some pf "the ' cpmpe, titors were off form but some of /the poorest results were from those who did not lack summer practice. T-he following is the result of the play:—

The following did nqt return cards: E. Carr, Monk, E. it. McDpweil, Schofield, L. -Dingle andv McCowan. The play, as indicated by the cards was disappointing. Of the older members F. Vfilkie was th'e only pne near his handicap, being fpurth on gross - cards returned. Pott's 79 was the best p*pss>- car4 returned. E. Fenton was th'e only one to touch 80 off the stick, E. Barker being third with .81., There was no room for excuses. The light was perfect and on the greens, the conditions were of the very best. Downer is driving a straight .and long ball and his hancjicap will stand pruning. McElroy 'still juistifies the attention of the handicapper. He plays with a short hack swing, and gets good length out of his hands. Hi§ putting is sound. In the novice division T. Byrne is showingi promLe. Thp seeond round will he played on April 22.
